Jess Banda is giving more advise on improving your grip

This summer Lee and I posted a lot on the idea of improving your grip strength and I strongly believe that it is one of the best things you can do for recoil management and it is very important for grappling and generally being “manly”.

However… I trained very hard with some great grip trainers and seem to have some damage to some joints.  Now my knuckles crack constantly and times I have trouble opening jars due to pain and weakness.  (For the record I over-trained,  it wasn’t the tool…  never blame the tool).

Jess’s most recent post GET A GRIP: THE PROGRAM shows 2 super-sets that use common gym equipment to build grip strength that don’t seem to work directly against your joints. If this is a fear for you, or you have the same issues with traditional grip strengthener that I have had, this could be a good option for you.

I managed to give myself a raging case of “Tennis Elbow” trying to do grip strength exercises. Today is the first day I’m going without my brace in hopes that I’ve finally started recovering enough to exist without it. It’s been *months*.

Robb Allen, tennis elbow/golfer’s elbow is a very common result from performing the same exercises repeated, which lead to over dominace of certain muscles. This over development leads to imbalanced strength levels between the different muscles which cross over the elbow. Remember, muscles attach to bone via tendons…so if the muscles are over developed, they will pull/traction on the tendon, altering the joint’s dynamics. I see this frequently in both my therapeutic and strength practices. If you have been utilizing flexion exercises, perform extension exercises, to counter the overdeveloped flexor muscles.
I would highly recommend you perform the “prehab rolling” exercises I demonstrate towards the end of the video. It’ll provide yoou some relief after a few applications.
