Gun Fight! Glock 19 vs JMB’s 1911

I have mentioned a few times I when I started to carry I really wanted to love the 1911, I even bought the 4″ Kimber you see here and a Milt Sparks VM2 holster.  However, it didn’t take long before I began to carry a Glock 19 in a hybrid holster.

This morning I got to thinking about the reasons different people pick plastic 9′s like the G19, M&P9 and the XDM4.5 or 1911 over the other and I had a bit of an epiphany.

You should carry the gun you would prefer NOT to face in a gun fight!

So here is the situation, the sitting president has decided to have Roman Style games pitting common men against each other in combat to show the dangers of firearms. You win the coin toss and get to pick which weapon you use and your anonymous competition gets the other. (Sound too far fetched?  Who thought this could happen?)

Which gun would you pick and why?

Here is the tail of the tape…

  1. JJ says

Across a table distance, GLOCK. Faster to pickup and get into action.

At 20+ yards, 1911. Easier to shoot accurately.

In between depends upon how many magazines available and whether there is cover available.

I would prefer the XD that I carry.

Also, if you know what the opponent would prefer do you chose to take their preference away from them? If they have never handled a 1911 I would let them have it. They just might have trouble with the grip and thumb safety.
