SHOT Show Oddity: The C-More M26 MASS

While not a new gun, this example of the C-more M26 MASS might just be the perfect example of what true gun porn is.  It is sexy, completely impractical but you still want to give it a try!

The M26 is designed to attach to the lower rail of an M4/AR15 style rifle for breaching or to provide a less lethal option.  In that capacity the M26 should be highly effective and the manually operated charging handle and 5 rd box magazine provide a unique solution to increase capacity and cycle the action.

In this shoulder fired variant however, you are left with a sub-3lb 12 gauge SBS (which has to “fun” to shoot… ouch) that requires you to use your off-hand to cycle the gun through a long stroke, with pressure extended away from the center line of the bore which would severely disrupt your shot to shot sight picture and leave no place for a good 4th point of contact (strong hand, should, cheek, off-hand?). As a civilian I have no use for a Master Key style shotgun and I believe this may be among the worst 12ga options for home defense (sitting somewhere between a single shot and double barrel), but it is undeniably cool looking and really does look like a whole lot of fun.

There’s also the problem that the M26 is a piece of crap that nobody in the military actually wants either. Seriously it’s basis of issue is like four guys in an engineer or MP company somewhere who probably pushed for the initial request.
